Shocked, overwhelmed and exceptionally proud are just a few words to describe how we felt as SolidTek triumphed at the prestigious Knowsley Business Awards.
We really didn’t think we would win…. So we are delighted to share the news that we won Micro Business of the Year Award 2019! Not bad for a small (but growing) company that started out just three years ago with no products or customers working out of the corner of a friend’s factory. Today we are offering an unmatched range of high performance solid chemical products which are being used by over 50 companies spread across the UK and Europe.
The Knowsley Business Awards is the largest awards ceremony of its kind in the Liverpool City Region and an established date in business and social calendars. The annual awards ceremony took place on Thursday 21st November 2019 in a grand marquee in Knowsley Safari Park.
The entire SolidTek team attended the event including 3 of our young apprentices – Tom, Cameron and Stephen. The SolidTek table also welcomed a special guest, Sue Chambers, our Investment Manager from MSIF (Merseyside Special Investment Fund). Sue and her colleague George Wright have been instrumental in securing funding for the business allowing us to undertake new projects, grow and achieve what we have achieved to date. Businesses in Merseyside who are seeking business loans, funding and support can contact them via http://www.msif.co.uk/
There were a number of categories, but SolidTek decided that Micro Business of the Year would be the most appropriate to enter. Mainly because judges were looking for sole traders, partnerships and businesses that are not part of a large organisation and who can demonstrate outstanding success and/or the positive impact it has had on the community.
During the shortlisting process judges considered:
- The business journey, what makes the business a success
- Growth and financial performance to date
- Key achievements/Niche markets
- Customer, staff, stakeholder engagement and collaboration
- Staff/owner development, recruitment and training
- Evidence of innovation, effective leadership and management
- Social value e.g. Apprenticeships (created/sustained), supporting young people into work, use of local suppliers, use of local skills/labour, bringing other businesses into the supply chain, community engagement/involvement
- Future growth plans and contribution to Knowsley
From start to finish the Knowsley Business Awards ceremony did not disappoint. The dinner was followed by an overview of each category and the presentation of the winners award. The entertainment was exceptional with amazing “James Bond” themed acts and dance performances. We were treated to an amazing evening with a very warm welcome.
It’s been an extremely busy but rewarding 3 years and all the hard work has paid off culminating in us winning the Micro Business of the Year 2019 award. Exciting times indeed for the SolidTek team.
